German Expressionism

Have you ever seen the scenes in films where you only see the
shadow of a person? Like when a man with a knife is shown as a shadow?

That comes from the film movement known as German expressionism.

It's very dramatic, frightening, and sharp art.

In todays movie you can say that Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands is essentially inspired by this german way of expression.

Nosferatu 1922

this is an example of this movement.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
